Interested in policies and programs to improve outcomes for individuals with mental illnesses involved with the criminal justice system but think your only option is to start a mental health court? This session will introduce innovative programs focused on identifying and engaging individuals early in the process before their cases are adjudicated or sentences determined. Short presentations about the development of New York City’s Legal Aid Society Manhattan Arraignment Project and the Travis County (TX) Adult Probation Department’s new pretrial processes will be followed by an interactive discussion about planning and implementation challenges, lessons learned, and successes.
