Crime in 2018: Updated Analysis

brennan centerIn September of 2018, the Brennan Center for Justice analyzed available crime data from the nation’s 30 largest cities. This preliminary data was compiled in a report, Crime and Murder in 2018: A Preliminary Analysis, which concluded that the overall murder and crime rates were again declining nationwide, continuing a historic downward trend. The Brennan Center’s most recent related analysis updates the September report and finds that, where data were available, rates of crime, violent crime, and murder in major American cities did continue to decline through the end of 2018. However, murder rates in some cities remained above 2015 levels, demonstrating a continued need for evidence-based solutions to violent crime.
