On April 3, 2013, the Council of State Governments Justice Center released Lessons Learned: Planning and Assessing a Law Enforcement Reentry Strategy. Produced with support from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), the report describes how four law enforcement agencies used the principles outlined in Planning and Assessing a Law Enforcement Reentry Strategy to engage in local-level reentry partnerships in order to reduce crime and increase public safety in their jurisdictions.
In addition to the publication of Lessons Learned, an interactive assessment tool was launched that is a companion to Planning and Assessing a Law Enforcement Reentry Strategy. This tool is meant to allow local sites to assess and improve the current state of practice as it relates to their reentry effort. This tool can be used by both law enforcement, corrections staff, community corrections professionals, and faith- and community-based services providers to facilitate an informed discussion among law enforcement agencies and community partners about reentry strategies.
