Program Highlights

  • Features a multi-layered approach with patrol-assigned “mental health liaison” officers who attend extra training and take on additional responsibilities 
  • Employs a team of six specialized “mental health officers” and in-house crisis workers, who are equipped to respond reactively to calls for service, and also to conduct proactive and follow-up work 
  • Formulates and coordinates sharing of individualized safety plans with line-level officers
  • Provides internal instruction for department’s police academy and agency in-service, using “scenario-based” approaches 
  • Facilitates de-escalation instruction for Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) trainings for outside agencies
