Access to Justice: A Cross-Disability Perspective on Reducing Jail Incarceration

Access LivingThis publication from Access Living of Metropolitan Chicago, produced with funding from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s Safety and Justice Challenge, reviews the different ways people with disabilities have contact with the criminal justice system through examining existing work in the field and interviews with impacted community members and people with disabilities who have been incarcerated. It offers policy recommendations and basic explanations for criminal justice professionals to better understand how to see disability from a cross-disability, social model perspective.
