Health, Polysubstance Use, and Criminal Justice Involvement among Adults with Varying Levels of Opioid Use

JAMA networkThis publication from JAMA Network Open offers a cross-sectional analysis of the association between various levels of opioid use and health, co-occurring substance addictions, and involvement in the criminal justice system. The analysis found that individuals who reported any level of opioid use were more likely than individuals who reported no opioid use to have physical and mental health conditions and co-occurring substance addictions. Involvement in the criminal justice system also increased with intensity of opioid use, and any level of opioid use was significantly associated with involvement in the criminal justice system within the past year.
