Creating Meaningful Change in the Relationship between Law Enforcement and Youth of Color

National Juvenile Justice Network squareThis publication from the National Juvenile Justice Network provides policy recommendations for working toward improved relationships between law enforcement and youth of color. These suggestions include mandating national and state standards to require law enforcement agencies to train officers in the use of de-escalation techniques with youth; using divestment to redirect a percentage of funds from police departments and prosecutors’ offices to fund youth development programs; and removing police officers from enforcing school discipline by returning discipline to school social workers and administration.
