Improving Access to Career Pathways for Philadelphia’s Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice System Involved Youth

Juvenile Law CenterThis report from the Juvenile Law Center looks at the barriers to career pathways that youth who have been involved in the justice system encounter. Based on an in-depth needs assessment of the Philadelphia community, the report offers five strategies to improve access to career building programs and early work experiences for youth in the child welfare or juvenile justice system, including: improving access to vital documents and records; offering meaningful opportunities for career and technical education; connecting youth who have been involved in the justice system to disability services, including job-related services; expanding work experiences for youth in institutional placements; and reducing the collateral consequences of juvenile and criminal records.
