Justice Briefing Live: Courting Judicial Excellence in Juvenile Justice
Juvenile court judges are the most important public figures in the juvenile justice system. Their decisions impact hundreds of thousands of youths each year, including the extent of their involvement in the court system and whether they can stay in their homes and communities. These judges’ decisions impact the future trajectory of many young people’s educations, careers, and overall well-being.
Courting Judicial Excellence in Juvenile Justice brings together experts who will discuss findings from a 50-state study that examines the role of juvenile court judges across the nation and reveals how most states do not have dedicated juvenile court judges, and how few states ensure that all judges statewide that handle delinquency cases have the training, tools, and support needed to make effective decisions for youth in the juvenile justice system.
