At the CSG Justice Center, we believe in reducing harm for people with mental health and/or substance use needs.

Law enforcement, court, and corrections leaders frequently come into contact with people who have unmet behavioral health needs, but most aren’t provided the training to recognize or effectively respond to people experiencing a behavioral health crisis. Jails are then crowded with people in crisis arrested and convicted of nonviolent, low-level offenses, and once incarcerated, they rarely receive the medication and care they need.

Our Solution: Expand access to behavioral health care—even in jails and prisons—and ensure courts, first responders, and other community leaders understand why, when, and how to prioritize care over incarceration.

We work with states and communities to develop and implement data-driven, cross-systems strategies and solutions that improve outcomes for people in the justice system with behavioral health needs.
