Becky Cohen works on school discipline and juvenile justice issues for the CSG Justice Center’s Research Division. Previously, she was a math teacher at a public middle school in Brooklyn, New York, and a director of academics at CitySquash, a nonprofit after-school program in the Bronx, New York. She later worked in the Texas legislature as an aide to Representative Scott Hochberg, vice chair of the House Committee on Public Education, where she staffed the committee and analyzed education-related legislation. Becky recently completed her doctoral studies with a research focus on the impact of exclusionary discipline on student outcomes. She earned a BA in sociology from New York University, an MA in middle childhood mathematics education from Brooklyn College, and a PhD in educational policy and planning at the University of Texas at Austin.
