Matt Herman performs data analysis and visualization using R for several CSG Justice Center projects, including Justice Counts and the Justice Reinvestment Initiative. He also works on Virtual Academy, which builds data literacy and analytic capabilities within departments of corrections through online courses and peer-to-peer networking. Before joining the CSG Justice Center, Matt was a deputy director in the Office of Research and Analytics at the NYC Administration for Children’s Services, where he created automated and reproducible workflows to generate outcome measures and performance indicators for investigations of child abuse and neglect. Matt received a BA in American studies from Columbia University and an MS in applied social research from Hunter College.
