Aligning Cultural Humility and Trauma-Informed Approaches

Past Event
December 9, 2021, 1:00- 2:30pm , Eastern

Hosted by The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA)

People experience incredibly high rates of trauma prior to and because of their involvement in the criminal justice system. As a result, many professionals working in the justice system are beginning to implement a trauma-informed approach that guides behavioral health and criminal justice professionals to develop practices, services, and policies that promote recovery and avoid re-traumatization. Both culture and individual risk and resilience factors influence how trauma is conceptualized and experienced. Because of this, an attitude of cultural humility should be utilized when developing trauma-informed responses. We know that there cannot be a “one-size-fits-all” method for providing a trauma-informed response. This webinar will help criminal justice and behavioral health professionals promote recovery and safety by adopting a trauma-informed approach that aligns with an attitude of cultural humility. This webinar will feature a presentation from Policy Research Associates Inc. and a panel discussion with criminal justice and behavioral health leaders.
