Ask the Expert: Crisis Stabilization Units

Past Event
October 2, 2023, 2:00pm - 3:30pm, Eastern

Hosted by The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center and the U.S Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs’ Bureau of Justice Assistance

It can often be difficult to link people to the treatment they need during a behavioral health emergency. Crisis stabilization units (CSUs) are one alternative to using emergency departments to provide crisis intervention to people in need. For this Ask the Expert session, we will be joined by Sergeant Jason Winsky and Dr. Margie Balfour from Tucson, Arizona, to talk about the CSU model in Tucson and how it has become a resource for law enforcement responding to crisis calls for service.

Speakers:

  • Margie Balfour, Chief of Quality & Clinical Innovation, Connections Health Solutions
  • Jason Winsky, Tucson Police Department
