Nine Years of Stepping Up: Reflections on County Progress and Pathways toward Success

Past Event
June 27, 2024, 12:00pm - 1:30pm, Eastern

Hosted by The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center, the National Association of Counties, and the American Psychiatric Association Foundation

As Stepping Up celebrates its ninth anniversary, the national Stepping Up partners—The Council of State Governments Justice Center, the National Association of Counties, and the American Psychiatric Association Foundation—will reflect on the initiative’s progress and challenges supporting counties to safely address the overincarceration of people with serious mental illness and improve connections to treatment and services.

The Stepping Up initiative is currently conducting strategic planning and has partnered with the Center for Effective Public Policy to facilitate this process. A series of listening sessions and a feedback tool will follow this webinar so that Stepping Up stakeholders, including but not limited to agency program staff and administrators, advocates, and people with lived experience in the justice and behavioral health systems, can share their experiences with and recommendations for Stepping Up. As a result, the Stepping Up partners will ensure that recommended pathways toward success reflect counties’ goals and capacity.

Speakers:

  • Megan Davidson, Program Director, Behavioral Health, CSG Justice Center
  • Mark Stovell, Deputy Program Director, Behavioral Health, CSG Justice Center
  • Kat Patterson, Senior Program Manager, Behavioral Health and Justice, National Association of Counties
  • Orleny Rojas, Senior Manager, Center for Effective Public Policy
