Using Data to Improve Health Care in Prison: The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry’s Approach

Past Event
April 23, 2025, 2:00pm - 3:30pm, Eastern

Hosted by The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center with funding from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs’ Bureau of Justice Assistance

Focusing on health care in corrections is crucial for safer, healthier, and more efficient operations. The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) uses technology and data analytics to improve health outcomes for incarcerated people. Through improved measurement and more accessible reporting, agency staff, leadership, and community partners are better able to support initiatives addressing critical health needs—including services and medical staffing.

During this seminar, presenters from ADCRR’s leadership and research teams will discuss how the agency is enhancing health care for incarcerated people through data-driven decision-making. Join us to learn ways to better leverage data and technology in addressing critical health care issues facing corrections agencies nationwide.

This event is part of the CSG Justice Center’s Advancing Data in Corrections Academy Seminar Series Seminar Series. The Advancing Data in Corrections initiative works to build data literacy and analytic capabilities within departments of corrections (DOCs) nationwide to further data-informed planning and decision-making. Through their participation in the Academy, corrections agency staff can access the program’s self-paced learning materials, community forum, peer-to-peer networks, and technical assistance at no cost.

Speakers:

  • Ryan Thornell, Director, Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry
  • Ashley Oddo, Deputy Director, Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry
  • Danielle Zinsmeister, Senior Research Associate, Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry
