Amir Chapel supports states and local governments in implementing evidence-based and data-driven policies that increase public safety while reducing harm to the most vulnerable communities. Prior to joining the CSG Justice Center, Amir provided program and technical support to public defender departments implementing a collaborative defense model, as well as to state administering agencies developing strategic plans in compliance with Byrne Justice Assistance Grant and Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program requirements. Amir also brings experience with research and has analyzed numerous criminal legal data sets with the goal of providing data-driven recommendations to policymakers, community stakeholders, and other system partners. Amir approaches his work with a community-based perspective to ensure the best outcomes for those whose lives intersect with the criminal justice system. Amir earned his MS in criminology from the University of Cincinnati.
