David N. Biette

David Biette became director of The Council of State Governments Eastern Regional Conference on January 1, 2021, having served as deputy director since May 2017. He was founding director of both the Canada Institute and the Polar Initiative at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He has served as executive director of the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States, and as a political-economic officer at the Consulate General of Canada in New York City, where he was responsible for relations with the states of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut on a variety of issues including political, energy, and environment affairs. He is the author of numerous chapters, policy briefs, and op-eds, and has appeared regularly in U.S., Canadian, and international media. Biette has a BA from Bowdoin College and an MA in international relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
