Esteem Brumfield supports state agencies in implementing and using criminal justice data through the Justice Counts initiative. Before joining the CSG Justice Center, Esteem served as the research director for the Mass Incarceration Lab at Brown University, where he led efforts to archive the effects of mass incarceration in the United States through oral accounts and writings of those impacted by the criminal legal system. Esteem also served as a public health commissioner for Alameda County, California, focusing on the relationship between incarceration and community health. Esteem received a BA in rhetoric and a BA in political science from UC Berkeley and an MPH from Brown University.
