Sarah Cassel 

Program Director, Corrections and Reentry

Sarah Cassel is the program director of the National Reentry Resource Center, which curates and develops resources and tools that assist jurisdictions across the country in implementing evidence-based, data-driven strategies to improve reentry and reduce recidivism. Previously, Sarah served as the director of diversion and reentry initiatives at the New York City Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, where she developed and implemented initiatives to safely reduce the city’s jail population and support post-release stabilization in the community. In particular, Sarah oversaw investments in alternative-to-incarceration programs, reentry services, higher education access for formerly incarcerated people, and restorative justice. Prior to that, she worked in various legal and social service nonprofit organizations in NYC and abroad. Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in government and philosophy from Wesleyan University and a master’s degree in criminology from the University of Cambridge.
