
Sofia Nystrom
Former Deputy Division Director, Research
Sofia Nystrom provided broad technical support to the Research Division, including the Justice Reinvestment Initiative research portfolio. Previously, she was the co-director of research at the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, part of Utah’s Governor’s Office. There, she led and collaborated on research initiatives across the justice system, including criminal and juvenile justice reform efforts, sentencing policy, and identifying systemic racial and ethnic disparities and barriers to successful reentry. Sofia received a PhD in economics with a concentration in econometrics from the University of Utah and later completed course-work in data mining from their School of Computing.
