How States Can Leverage Medicaid to Reduce Recidivism and Improve Health Outcomes

Hosted by The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center and CSG’s Midwestern Legislative Conference (MLC) Health & Human Services Committee and Corrections & Public Safety Forum

As states face rising health care costs and evolving federal requirements, Medicaid is emerging as a key tool to support successful reentry for people after incarceration. This webinar will explore how states can use Medicaid to:

  • Implement new Section 1115 reentry waivers to improve health and reduce recidivism
  • Use Medicaid and justice system data to identify individuals who frequently cycle through jails, hospitals, and shelters—and find better ways to support them
  • Use Medicaid to improve access to recidivism reduction services with youth involved in the justice system

This webinar is intended for legislators and state health and corrections leaders.

 Speakers

  • Alex Ruth, Deputy Program Director, Health Policy, CSG Justice Center
  • Stephanie Ueberall, Deputy Program Director, Corrections and Reentry, CSG Justice Center
