Building Effective Partnerships with Continuums of Care to Increase Housing Options for People Leaving Prisons and Jails

Past Event
April 27, 2022, 3:00pm - 4:15pm, Eastern

Hosted by The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center, the National Reentry Resource Center, and the Bureau of Justice Assistance

To connect people in reentry with housing, an essential first step for corrections agencies is to engage with their Continuum of Care, charged by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to prioritize people for HUD-funded homeless assistance on a community level. This webinar will provide strategies for corrections leaders and staff to build these relationships, with a focus on establishing buy-in to serve a shared population and implementing community-wide prioritization and referral processes. The webinar will also feature presentations from communities that have successfully built partnerships across the criminal justice and housing/homeless assistance systems to increase housing opportunities for people reentering.

Speakers:

  • Liz Hitt, Executive Director, Homeless and Travelers’ Aid Society, Albany, NY
  • Meghan Patton, Specialty Court Administrator, Cuyahoga County (OH) Common Pleas Court
  • Charles Francis, Project Manager, Behavioral Health, CSG Justice Center
