Equipping Staff with Tools to Serve Higher-Risk Youth Effectively in the Juvenile Justice System

Past Event
November 2, 2023, 2:00pm - 3:00pm, Eastern

Hosted by The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the University of Cincinnati Corrections Institute, and the Center for Juvenile Justice Reform at Georgetown

As jurisdictions across the country are increasingly concerned about youth crime and violence, it’s critical that agencies focus on employing policies and practices that have proven to be effective at reducing recidivism rather than pushing youth unnecessarily deeper into the system. With support from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the University of Cincinnati Corrections Institute (UCCI)—in partnership with The Council of State Governments Justice Center and Center for Juvenile Justice Reform at Georgetown—will host a webinar discussing strategies for equipping staff with research-driven tools, practices, and techniques to effectively work with higher-risk youth in the juvenile justice system, especially those who engage in violent behavior. Presenters will share program successes and challenges as well as implementation lessons learned.

Speakers:

  • Mindy Smith, Executive Director, UCCI
  • Chad Jensen, Director, Iowa Juvenile Court Services
  • James Jackson, Parole Services Liaison, Ohio Department of Youth Services
