Peer-to-Peer Learning Sites

The CSG Justice Center offers two types of peer-to-peer learning opportunities for agencies seeking to improve responses to people who have behavioral health needs.

To support local efforts to improve responses to people with mental health needs, the CSG Justice Center has identified 25 model sites that focus on addressing the behavioral health needs of people interacting with the criminal justice system, across all points in the Sequential Intercept Model. These peer-to-peer learning sites can assist with mentorship and technical assistance to practitioners looking to improve the services they provide and address the behavioral health needs in their communities. Sites within both the Law Enforcement-Mental Health Learning Sites Program and the Criminal Justice-Mental Health Learning Sites Program offer free advice, resources, and support directly from established leaders in the field.

Law Enforcement-Mental Health
Learning Sites Program

Helps law enforcement agencies wanting to build collaborative responses to people who have mental health needs.

Criminal Justice-Mental Health
Learning Sites Program

Helps communities improve or implement new programming to improve outcomes for people who have mental health needs.

The learning sites are responsible for facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange, fostering innovation, and serving as mentors for other agencies that are passionate about police, criminal justice, and behavioral health reform. Both programs also emphasize the importance of sharing leading practices and successful strategies to help guide advancements in criminal justice responses so that efforts that work can be replicated and scaled nationwide.  These programs are supported by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, which is a component of the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs, as part of the Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program.
