This Giving Tuesday, Help Us Break Cycles of Incarceration, Uphold Justice, and Offer Second Chances
We at The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center wish everyone a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season. In addition to spending time with friends and family, many people also see this time of year as a season for giving. As you decide what causes to support for Giving Tuesday on November 30, please do not forget the millions of Americans impacted by crime and incarceration.
This year brought many challenges, but 2021 was also a year of possibility. In the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we helped connect states and local communities to funding and resources that could advance justice-related goals and worked to ensure that people in correctional facilities stayed safe and healthy. We hosted the first-of-its-kind “Taking The Call” conference, bringing together leaders to explore how communities can prioritize support and services instead of arrest for people experiencing behavioral health issues, homelessness, and other crises. We worked with Republican and Democratic lawmakers to reduce recidivism and prevent second chances from being cut short. We helped states to reduce barriers to employment for people with criminal records, understand how supervision violations impacted prison populations during the pandemic, and navigate fiscal and systemic challenges with our data and tools.
None of this would have been possible without the support of our donors and partners. As we move into the holiday season and new year, your assistance is more critical than ever to help us advance criminal justice reforms that improve lives and save money.
With your support, we can continue work in 2022 to help break cycles of incarceration; advance health, opportunity, and equity; and use data to improve safety and justice.
This Giving Tuesday, please consider donating to the CSG Justice Center as we work to uphold justice, offer second chances, and ensure safe and healthy communities.
