Promoting Recovery and Reducing Recidivism: Implementing Effective Programming for Individuals with Substance Use Disorders
Integrating substance use and co-occurring disorder treatment into the criminal justice system is an important component of an effective recidivism reduction strategy. Research shows that combining treatment with supervision has a significant impact on reducing recidivism and is cost-effective. Ensuring that individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders are treated according to evidence-based practices and treatment modalities is critical to improving outcomes, maximizing investment, and building support for further expansion of services. This session will highlight the research and best practices about effective treatment for justice-involved individuals with substance use disorders and highlight several state and local approaches to program implementation.
