Program Highlights
- Participates in an inter-agency collaborative, which includes representatives from city, county, and state criminal justice and behavioral health agencies
- Uses a comprehensive training strategy, including 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training and Mental Health First Aid
- Established processes for law enforcement personnel to identify and connect appropriate people to a 24/7 Crisis Stabilization Unit

- In the process of building a new jail that will include a mental health unit for people in custody
- Operates a pretrial diversion program to release individuals to a treatment center rather than moving forward with trial and sentencing for applicable, low-level crimes
- Conducts pretrial risk assessments that provide local judges with the necessary information for them to set suitable conditions for release
- Ran a pilot program for mental health transport units in the State of Tennessee, which has been expanded state-wide. This unit consists of an emergency medical responder riding in a specialized van with a non-uniformed sheriff’s deputy in order to safely transport all people who are being brought in for an involuntary mental health assessment or hold.
